RE: Installing Inverter

If the OP comes back and gives some feedback on what he is inclined to do I think he can very well be guided in a correct install. The hardest part is the planning, once he starts the work in the right direction it should go easy.

RE: Electric Question...

If the side that powers the house battery charger goes off and the battery goes dead that could be an issue. Same if the fridge goes off or electric water heat. Except that some things may not work, no harm should come of it.

RE: Battery Charger

The 2 amp is OK as long as you do not really use the RV and you leave it on continuously. You need 10 amps or more if you will be using the RV much. For recharging with a generator you should have 20 amps per battery. Far better is to get the onboard converter fixed. Post the make and model for best info.

RE: order for hooking up two 6v for 12 v service

Yes.

RE: In Line battery shut off

All other switches and breakers are on the positive and so it is best to stay with that and put it on the positive.

RE: Towing 6800# with an F150? Should I go 3/4 ton instead?

If you do go 250/350, don't bother with the 5.4 motor. The F150 properly equiped will do great around the corner or cross country IMO.

RE: Had my brake fluid changed ... looked like syrup!

While the fluid brake system is sealed pretty tight the primary entry for moisture I believe is through the master cylinder cap. Not much can enter but over the time of multiple years or even a decade the small amount accumulates.

RE: Is 4 wheel drive overkill?

4wd to drive in 5" snow? :R OK maybe for the mud.

RE: will oceanfront parking cause damage?

If you go to Pismo and drive on the sand just stay out of the surf. Otherwise no worries.

RE: Big three auto makers in big trouble

Unfortunately it looks like a BK judge will need to do the work the high paid management has not been able to accomplish for the past 20+ years.

RE: Had my brake fluid changed ... looked like syrup!

That is why most (all?) manufacturers recommend brake fluid be changed every few years. Where on a Ford/GM/Chrysler website can I find this recommendation? The Owners Manual for my Ford E-450 makes no mention of it at all. Same with list of recommended service items. ?? My Ford F150 owners manual maintenance schedule says motorhomes should have brake fluid changed every 24 months. I use a pressure bleeder to replace my truck brake fluid on that schdule even if not required.

RE: Dual Batteries on Bumper??

Slap some steel down and the batteries will fit end to end easily. Or a bracket to mount the second on top works fine. Otherwise I would just transport the battery secured in a box inside the TT and bring it out and connect while camped.

RE: warm wire at battery (updated new wire is here)

Genuinedealz is a good supplier as I have bought from them several times. Good luck on the snake. If it is easier my OEM wire just went through the floor and tied to the frame with zip ties. Did you get or do you have the IQ smart controller for the IOTA?

RE: Rear End Ratio on Int. 4200 of 6.50? Why? Is this good?

Final drive ratio matters most and that will depend on the overdrive ratio in the transmission. Drive it and see if it cruises at top speed at the RPM you would expect. All things being equal the higher the number the more RPM and torque to the wheels for better towing and lower MPG.

RE: Rumors about water tank mold.

After camping I drain and refill my tank with our heavily chlorinated city water. I know our city water even after sitting out in an open dish for a week will kill a goldfish in less than eight hours. (:( sorry about that DD) I assume it will control mold and bacteria in a closed tank for quite a while.

RE: Floating charge Voltage level question

Lower temperatures = higher voltage. Higher temperatures = lower voltage. Sounds like it is working perfectly.

RE: Towing 6800# with an F150? Should I go 3/4 ton instead?

You have some friends with an F150..... I would ask what it would take to do a weekend test drive. Plan a trip with some hills to climb. The 5.4 F150 will pull just fine as long as you have some patience and don't mind letting the motor rev up when needed. If it is mostly for towing consider 4.56/4.88 gears. When it is time for tires be sure to get LT-C.

RE: Battery Charging

The batteries should recover fine... once. Keep them on a charger for 24 to 48 hours once you start charging.
